Acton is a parish 3 miles north east by north from Sudbury and 2 east from Long Melford, not far from the river Stour, in the western division of the county, in the Babergh Hundred.

School (mixed) for boys, girls & infants; the building was enlarged in 1863. Miss Margaret Bradshaw, mistress.
